Biographie de Vinco David
Multi-talented international storyteller
A good short story, a catching anecdote, a witty joke. Or a historical tale that connects elements from various countries and cultures. The much-travelled author and political scientist Vinco David has an easy way of speaking. In this age of story-telling and renewed interest for history he uses his stories to inspire his audience with new insights into political, cultural and business issues of current interest.
Vinco David (Leiden, the Netherlands, 1961) pursues three careers simultaneously. He is a Management Team member of the credit insurance company Atradius Dutch State Business, he is coach in cross-cultural management and author. His debut novel 'Mannenharem' ('The 1002nd Night') was published by Van Gennep, Amsterdam, in 2006.
Vinco David, of German-Jewish origin, is also the author and co-author of a number of non-fiction books published in Dutch, such as 'Polderpalet', on diversity management and 'Gluren bij de buren', on humor and diversity. Over the years he has given lectures, presentations and workshops around the globe on a range of issues such as globalisation, international communication, cross-cultural management and migration. In addition, he has written various articles and essays on these issues in leading Dutch media. He is fluent in English, Dutch and German.
His novel 'Mannenharem' has been very favourably reviewed in the Dutch press and on radio and television. The filmmaker Theo van Gogh had wanted to screen this book. Just before he was killed in a terrorist attack he wrote: "'Mannenharem' is a brilliant example of Vinco David's epic talent. He takes us on a voyage through history in which we experience sensations that normally are privy to only the most adventurous among us. 'Mannenharem' is such a gripping story that one would almost forget that the author has carried out extensive research. An hidden world opens up to us. The superiority of the story is also shown by its easiness to read. This will introduce many readers into the unknown, without the scourge of jargon or exaggerated explanation. It’s a tale that carries us far away into our unexplored mental areas."
After Theo van Gogh's death the filmmaker Eddy Terstall has taken over the torch. In 2007 he completed a short film based on the novel.
Vinco David has already inspired many listeners with his powerful ability to combine creativity with matter-of-factness and an admirable sense of humor.
